In galleries, a red dot beside a piece of art means one thing: sold. The Local Art Economy exists to put more red dots on local art.

Across Appalachia, local art hangs on the walls of breweries, wineries, restaurants and shops. Too often it comes back down unsold, and the artist is asked to pick it up and bring something new. Displaying art is a good start. But artists also need buyers, and communities need collectors.

Hosted by photographic artist Yevette Lynn, The Local Art Economy helps artists treat their work as a business, not a hobby, so they can sell more, reinvest in their practice and grow personally and professionally. Yevette brings a long career in small-business development to the conversation, along with an artist's understanding that many creatives want their work to be seen even when they would rather not be.

The show is also for collectors and future collectors. Art is attainable for everyone, whether a piece costs $2 or $200,000. Each episode makes it easier to find local artists, buy with confidence and understand the difference one purchase makes in the economic health of a community.

Art is meant to be seen, sold, collected, shared, given, rotated and passed on. When local art finds a home, the artist, the collector and the whole community benefit.

You will hear conversations with artists, collectors, gallerists, foundations and grantors, interior designers, framers and small-business resource partners, along with practical advice and real-world case studies from Yevette.
